The Sky Island
The world type Ex Nihilo Reborn is built around, picked for you when you create a world.
How a world starts#
Sky Island is the default world type on the Create World screen while the mod is installed, and dedicated servers start on it too. The Overworld is empty except for one dirt block with an oak tree on it at the spawn point. It is a plains world, so animals spawn on lit grass the same way as in vanilla.
The starting tree is built once. Breaking the tree or the dirt never brings it back, so replant a sapling before you take the last log.
The Nether and the End#
The Nether is empty as well: an obsidian portal leads to a dark void. Bring blocks and build out. Nether materials come from barrels of lava, witch water and the sieve (see Barrels).
For the End, craft end portal frames or an End Cake. See Tools & Extras.
The guide book#
Every new player gets a short guide book on first join. Lost it? /exnihilo guide gives another.
Starter kit#
Server owners and pack makers can hand new players a starter kit, set in config/exnihiloreborn-extras.json. See Config files.
Feature switches#
The big optional parts of the mod are built-in data packs, switched on or off per world on the Create World screen under Data Packs:
| Data pack | What it adds | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Ex Nihilo: Fruit Trees | Eight fruit trees found by sifting | On |
| Ex Nihilo: Machines | Auto sieve, auto hammer, cobblestone generator | On |
| Ex Nihilo: Rustlers | Leaf bugs that jump out of broken leaves and steal from you | On |
| Ex Nihilo: Wandering Trader | Sky trades, animals with every visit, the trader's bell | On |
Commands#
| Command | Who | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/exnihilo guide | Everyone | Gives you the guide book. |
/exnihilo reload | Operators | Reloads the config files without a restart. |
