Ex Nihilo Fauna Coming soon
Fourteen creatures that make a sky world feel alive. Seven pests that get in the way of your work, and seven friends that help with it.

Not released yet. Fauna will be a separate download that needs Ex Nihilo Reborn and Fabric API on Minecraft 26.3. Every creature spawns naturally in the Overworld under its own rules (the Ember Newt in the Nether as well), and each has a spawn egg.
Creatures#
| Creature | Type | Where it spawns | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
Crow | Pest | By day on dirt, farmland or leaves under open sky | Lands on farms and eats grown crops back to seedlings, sometimes trampling the farmland. Keeps clear of fields a scarecrow watches. |
Ember Newt | Pest | Near lava in the dark, and in the Nether | A fireproof lizard that sets wooden things alight: logs, planks, barrels, sieves. Water and rain hurt it. |
Void Wisp | Pest | At night in pitch dark, over the void | Drifts up from under the island and shoves players toward the nearest drop. Light keeps it away, so a torch-lit edge is safe. |
Silk Moth | Pest | At night near leaves, in the dark | Hatches from infested leaves and infests other trees. Nibbles dropped saplings into string, but never the last one. Shears catch it for string and a silkworm. |
Sieve Mite | Pest | Very rarely from blocks being sifted | Hops along your sieves knocking blocks off their meshes. One hit kills it, and it may drop an extra ore piece. |
Pebble Imp | Pest | Pops out of cobblestone being hammered | Throws pebbles. They barely hurt, but the knockback is dangerous near the edge. |
Brine Crab | Pest | In and around brine pools | Nips players who come close and walks off with a stack from a strainer. Kill it to get the stack back. |
Firefly | Friend | At night around trees | Drifts and glows near where it appeared. Catch one with a glass bottle for a firefly jar. |
Pollen Beetle | Friend | By day near leaves | Buzzes from fruit to fruit; every fruit it visits ripens a stage. |
Hermit Crab | Friend | On sand by brine or water | Pulls into its shell when hurt or approached (sneak to get close). Every 15 to 25 minutes it outgrows its shell and leaves a nautilus shell behind. |
| Friend | On dirt near trees | Picks up saplings lying on the ground and plants them on free dirt or grass nearby, two blocks clear of other trees. | |
Leaf Snail | Friend | On leaves or dirt while it rains | Leaves a slime trail now and then. Scrape the trail up for slime balls: the only early slime a sky world has. |
Root Mole | Friend | On dirt and grass | Every few minutes stops to dig and turns up a small find: a seed, a pebble, a root or a bone. |
Songbird | Friend | By day in trees | Perches and sings, and snaps up Silk Moths and Sieve Mites that come near its tree. |
Grace period#
Pests never spawn naturally near a player who is still in their first forty minutes, so a new island gets a calm start. The length is in the config.
Blocks#
- Firefly Jar: a firefly caught in a glass bottle. A soft light source.
- Slime Trail: left by Leaf Snails. Scrape it up for slime balls.
Config#
Settings live in config/exnihilofauna.json. Spawn weights and group sizes are read at startup, so restart after changing them.
